TV table with Wings! (kinda)

We have a couple of gliders in front of our 60” Sony. We sometimes like to take dinner there while watching a good movie. We manage on hassocks and small tables. Not the best. I decided to make a divider table between the chairs with built in tv tables. They flip up for use and down when we want them out of the way. Takes about five seconds to set up. And the first meal of Maine haddock this evening proved that it is a keeper. If you want to see the build just click here or the picture below.

Loved the plans on the fly approach, it’s the only way to fly.

Frank Klausz uses Elmers too. I will if a gallon is less than TB I.

Clever and unique solution to an age-old problem. Fun video to ride along with your emergent design process.

Thanks. Ya, the glue really doesn’t matter. With elmers the wood will still break someplace besides the joint. One thing I learned while making guitars long ago though was that if you have some glue spilling out on the seams. Titebond will sand like wood. Elmers won’t. You pretty much have to scrape it off first otherwise the wood will sand down around it. So, titebond is easier in that respect. But, I like the way it spreads.

Thanks. Yes, and with the floor braces under the rug, and that little brace on the floor that I added to the nose piece, it’s very sturdy. I’m so thankful it worked out. And it seems to have worked out really well. Our first meal on it tonight was solid.
One thing I might do though it take the wings off and cut them about a half inch from the inside edge then remount them. When they swing down I didn’t take into account the thickness of the rug, so they don’t go down perfectly vertical.

What a really efficient use of space! I like that it comes back between the chairs as well as the panels that flip up in front of them. It’s like you are sitting in the middle of the table looking out! Well done. Very clever design. Loved the video too! Thanks for the great post!

That is so cool. I could see Blondie and I using something like this. We ate dinner last night while watching the Masters on or chairs! Very cool.
