Parallel Edge Guide

Inspired by a nautical map tool known as “parallel ruler”, this is a parallel edge guide. On the bottom side of this layout tool is a rabbeted ledge that catches on the edges of stock (like the edge of the granite counter, as seen in the photos) and has an adjustable edge that stays parallel. This size is capable of measuring items up to ~6” wide and the wing nuts tighten against nylon washers atop a set screw fed from the underside. Once set, the parallel edges are quite tight and will not move without significant force. This allows you to copy the width of one item and transfer it to another piece of stock. Made out of Western Red Cedar, no finish. The cross bars are made out of cell cast acrylic (specifically ChemCast). The set screws and wing nuts are 1/4-20 coarse.

Pretty nice. I have a similar, Chestnut Tools metal one I received as a gift some years ago. Still haven’t used it but it sure looks good!

I am actually working on a micro-adjust version similar to this thing:
