This is a unique toy made from exotic Bocote wood. I start with 12mo+ aged Bocote from my local MacBeath Hardwood store and I use a smoothing hand-plane to remove the band-saw marks from one side (leaving intact the dark aged surface). I then use a router and surfacing sled to mill the other side flat and hand plane it smooth, revealing the starkly contrasted inner beauty of Bocote. Once the wood has been milled to produce this 2-tone effect, I cut the shape out using my Shaper Origin mobile CNC router. The edges are rounded over using a point-cutting roundover bit in the Shaper Origin (some angles are too tight to fit a bearing into). The whole thing is finished with Walrus Oil brand mineral oil and Daddy Van’s brand lavender & beeswax furniture polishing wax. My initials and the month/year (Feb/2021) appear on the bottom edge of the bear.
