Hi LJ’s. Hope everyone is doing OK out there…

I’m currently working on a furniture set for our master bedroom. My wife loves rustic, but with lots of detail. I like all things Arts and Crafts, especially Greene and Greene. So, we’ve decided to combine Mesquite lumber with G&G accents. We like the combination and this is the 3rd piece (of 7) now complete. I’ve also got the two nightstands finished (I posted the first one last year).

So, here’s the details – Solid wood, frame and panel construction with loose tenon joinery. It’s 21 inches tall and the top measures 47 by 18.5. It has a removable aromatic cedar bottom. The finish is simple – two brush coats of Danish Oil (natural) and two sprayed coats of Shellac (blonde). The square plugs (60 total, 3 different sizes) and splines are Black Walnut. I used two Torsion Hinges from Rockler .

I made a ton of mistakes, but seem to be getting better at fixing and hiding those darn goofs. Got lucky with the lumber. The only sequence-cut boards I had were saved for the top. The rest of the planks were a mish-mash of wood from 3 different sources. But I think it ended up working out OK…

Headboard, tall chest of drawers and a long dresser with a mirror frame are all in the queue. Looks like I’ll be riding the Mesquite/ G&G crazy train for awhile…

Questions and comments are always welcome. Thanks LJ’s…

You did a bang up job of show casing that beautiful wood. Also really like the g&g style, I look forward to the next pieces.

Gorgeous!

I can’t get over how some people are swimming in mesquite and I’m stuck with 5” “twigs” I saw up 8^)

The G&G looks great in this wood and you have the details in perfect places. The pedestal is really nice with the corner joints and plugs (I hate making those plugs)

Very cool breadboard lid with the book match!

I see a lot of mesquite here in Texas, and I’ve never seen any looking better than this. My hat is off to your skill and attention to detail. Lovely piece.
