Carved this for daughter-in-laws birthday. From a tree I was pruning – Myrtle I think. Should have included something for size comparison as its a bit of a monster – 45cm long (nearly 18ins). Lovely wood to carve but took a long time to dry even after most of stock removed.
Axe, rasp and gouge. Sanded to 400 then salad bowl oil. She seemed to like it.

Good looking spoon…. I’m sure she loves it…. but gotta say, I would not want to grow up as one of her children having to run from this thing. (-: Nice work!

Thanks guys. Spoontaneous, your carving has been inspirational.
I did make a similar joke but just got blank look. The term ‘wooden spoon’ does not carry the force it once did.
