Padauk, padauk, padauk… a beautiful blood red-hued wood that I fell in love with years ago only to find that along with the beauty of its hue quickly ages quickly. I had collected some board feet of it and made a traditional mortise and tenon base construction with leftover rustic maple and added my signature router cut butterfly’s on the tabletop.
Conclusion: after doing trial finishes for UV protection- UV wins. I am satisfied with the construction and finish- so now I have her completed and let it patina

I have placed it in my art room where I add projects as they are finished-

That has hand made, craftsman, all over it.

Beautiful piece. Well done…

Beautiful bench DW. How much wood movement do you get in the desert? Good addition to your room.

THx- even in the desert, wood movement is minimal- yet we have humidity. I have to stay on top of our humidity and temperature for my finishings… as for wood, they all move… follow the “traditional breadboard method or some day it may come and bite you…

Looks great! I really like the breadboard ends and the bow ties look great. I’m a fan padauk as well.

My first attempt at a butterfly or bowtie, yeah that looked more like an asteroid. Thankfully it was scrap piece but still let me wondering why I torture myself. LOL

DW, very nice work!

I think the secret to a hand cut butter fly is 1) a very sharp chisel 2) a marking knife and 3) a router plane. Thats if you want to try it.

I like your art room. Building a home wife wanted a craft room – it now will be called an art room.

Nice job on the table.
