Gambel's Quail

This is a Gambel’s Quail, normally found in the US Southwest. The quail is about 7 inches long from tip of tail to tip of beak. Carved from basswood, except the plume on the head, which is carved from a piece of black walnut for added strength.

We get those doing conga lines through the yard and sure is funny when breeding season is in swing and all the fence posts have one on top trying to impress the girls 8^)

nice work claude she’s a beauty my friend.claude carved a beagle for me i gave my wife for christmas,she loves it.beautiful work.

Nice one! Great color, beautiful positioning, you most always see them running, very natural it.

Cool! I’ve lived in southern California for decades and never have seen one. Guess I need to get out more. I’m more familiar with the San Quentin Quail. Haven’t hunted those since I turned 18, though.
