Project Information

Wing Chun is traditional Souther Chinese Kung Fu style and form of self defence. The dummy is used for training and practise.
Pillar is 175cm, 18cm diameter chestnut. The base is 4cm oak boards, dimensions 80×60cm, fastened together with pillar with 8mm screws. Upper crossbars I made of beech, glued of three layers than turned. Holes dimensions - 40mm. Square profile of bottom crossbar enters pillar some 35mm, to prevent rotation. I widen that rounded hole and made that access with straight router. Finish palisander stain costing and non glosy laquer, crosbarrs - wood oil.

Nice job on it Ivan. If I could move my legs better I would try it myself.

Looks like a great job on that.. Was a little curious if the base is heavy? Looks like you might kick that around the room.

Reminds me of Buffalo wings in both name and looks… though I wish I had one of those limbs… not hard to guess which one.

You should motorise it so it can fight back!

Maybe I'm a Wing Chun... as I'm a dummy the missus practices aggression on.

Yeah, I know, no one is surprised!

Ivan, definitely one of the coolest projects I've seen on LJs. It looks simple to make but looks can be deceiving. The joints have to be made loosely but strongly. If you are proficient in using this training device then you should display pictures of the bruises that can be left behind at the end of a day of training. Would love to see it being used.
