The burl is a cottonwood burl, scrap leftover from my Jet Engine Coffee Table project.

The frame is white oak, with a Shou Sugi Ban finish. The frame corners are mitered with keys, and the backdrop is copper that I added a patina to using borax.

Thanks for watching it on YouTube

I like how the grain of the white oak shows through the char left behind in the grain, and on the front edges, the ray fleck that is traditionally seen on quarter-sawn oak shows through beautifully. You can see this in the section of the video where I trim the second hand of the clock to fit.

Thanks,
Brian Benham

Thanks, Copper is a fun material to work with, and since it can be machined with woodworking tools it seems like a natural progression if you want to expand your work into other things.

Nice Brian, the red patina goes well with the lightness of the cottonwood and blackened oak.

Perfect idea for a great “clock” project that is always going to come out unique!
