Chart Weight Holder

Small project for my Dad who is in a K-9 Search and Rescue Unit. These weights hold down a map so they can coordinate searches, and training exercises and such. The weights are rather unique. Two are magnifying glasses, one is a compass and the last one is a clock. $60 EACH, solid brass, very nice. Oddly nobody makes storage boxes to hold more than one so Dad requested a holder. All glue and joinery, no nails and only screws are for the hinge and the clasps. Used some stainless steel piano hinge as this will get alot of abuse and that seems to hold up well in shop. He wanted this a bright color and with some reflective tape so it doesn’t get lost. If I were making one for home use paint would never be used. LOL Interior is all padded with 1/4 foam glued to the top, bottom and sides. The middle dividers are a sandwich of foam, 5mm plywood and then foam again. Held in place by grooves cut into front and back and installed BEFORE gluing the box together.

Thanks, these people do this as volunteers. The amount of training and certification in incredible. Many people don’t need 1/10 th of that to go to work, and get paid.

Thanks!

He opted not to have one when asked about it. Called me yesterday to tell me he changed his mind. Used a yellow plastic handle on the top that happened to fit. LOL Figures right?

Plenty Hi Vis, it holds the desired contents, snugly by appearance, so should minimize risk of breakage.

Win Win Son of the Year, well at least of the month award goes toooo….. Nice build.

Tell your Dad I said thanks.

Thanks, I will pass it on. Expect him here later tonight. Seems he would like a removeable plate to put on his tailgate for the maps and such. Should prove to be a interesting build.

My vino comes in a box… allbeit cardboard! I am filled with benevolence… I consider the weight of vino bottles on the fragile spine and knees of my local garbos.

You cherry picked the outside and shop ones. LOL
- woodbutcherbynight

Well, the last time I ”looked” inside, the cops arrested me… and rc’s wallet didn’t have bribe worthy contents (empty)!
