So it was finally time too retire the crib I built for my kids, and move our youngest to a “big boy bed”. After getting an idea on what the wife was looking for, I got to work on some dimensions and a supply list.

Over the next few weeks I pieced this together in my spare time. 3/4 ply was used as the large panels, 1×3 pine for the trim, and 1×4 for the top rail.

I used my Kreg jig to join the frames together, then attached them to the large panels with glue and brad nails. I joined all completed panels with Kreg Jig pocket holes to make any future break downs an easy possibility haha. I finished the work with two coats of minwax stain and poly.

Overall I think it turned out a nice piece, and the youngest definitely approved!

Thanks for taking a look!

Good clean work on a classic furniture piece – should give your son a cozy feeling at night!

Very nice. And easy to turn into a fort by putting a sheet over the walls. :)

Looks nice. Based on a twin mattress?

Yes, ordered a memory foam mattress of Amazon and built around it basically.
