Coat Rack 2 for 1

I had a bunch of 5/16×2” red oak flooring material leftover from some panel cladding I’m doing at a commercial job so I decided to make a little herringbone coat rack for my daughter who is two to hang her little coats on. I glued the planks to a piece of plywood with some bosticks best floor glue which is probably overkill but heck, I had it lying around and I didn’t want to face nail. Then I track-sawed off one side and cleaned it up on the table saw. Then I decided it was too big and I didn’t want the “v” part right under the hooks so I ripped it so the design would be above them. Nice, I thought. So I ripped some stuff down for the frame and boom it was finished. Then I looked at the leftover rip and thought heck, just put a frame on that and some hooks and I got an extra little coat rack for my in-laws to have since they watch the little one while we’re at work. Everybody wins!

Nice, she’ll love that forever. Daddy made that for me. Doesn’t get any better…......

Thanks everyone for the compliments, I really appreciate the encouragement. And Ron, yeah, I find all sorts of ways to use old flooring remainders. The backside of these pieces, I just realized, were two pieces of 7” white oak engineered planks that I glued together. And the little 2” strips are great for all sorts of things, borders, edgebanding, etc. I just put a little chamfered edge on the outside, so it makes a “v” groove when you push them together. Looks great.

What finish did you use here? I like how it muted the tone of the red oak.
