Brian's Bullet Box

My nephew asked for a box to hold his 9mm ammo. Brian’s bullet box, that’s what he’s calling it. LOL. I would of thought he would want a wooden case for the gun. Maybe later.
He wanted the space for at least 50 or more 9mm in a nice box and I was glad to do it for him.
The wood I used is Guanacaste for the top and Tigerwood for the sides . Maple for the splines and I added extra splines on the lid for no special reason, kind of looked good to me. After sanding the box I knew it wood pop with Danish oil. 3 coats and waxed and buffed. The insert is Kaizen foam with 3/16’’ holes . It holds the bullets nice and snug. Last pic I made a cardboard template to drill the holes, it kept the Kaizen foam from getting torn up.
In the next few weeks he’s taking me to the gun range. (maybe to show off his box?) It’s been awhile since I’ve been to one, should be fun.
P.S. I found out I get a allergic reaction from the Guanacaste. Cutting and sanding made me sneeze like heck.
Good to know.

Another beautiful piece Dave, thanks for the heads up on the allergen of the species, never heard of that one yet. I like the way you set the Tigerwood grain to the front, shows a lot of character.

Beautiful box, Dave! You’ll be making a box for the gun next. Maybe I’ll see you at the range someday!

That is a beautiful box, Dave. I hope he reloads because 9mm are as scarce as dinosaurs.

Cheers, JIm

Gorgeous wood. Really nice details on an ammo box! He won’t want to take it to the range.

Your bullet box turned out nice Dave! I never heard of Guanacastle wood before but it sure is beautiful wood.
I like how you added the splines to the lid adds a little more character to the box. I have extra masks if you need one!
Bless you!

Thanks buddy. Yea that wood had me sneezing instantly. I had to blow my nose to stop. It’s a pretty lumber, I wish the piece I had, had more black grain.

Thanks Rich. I’m thinking of surprising him with a gun box. I’ll have to see what he has first. Maybe I will see you at the range.

Thanks Jim. I’m don’t know his situation that much. We talked about it briefly at Christmas. All I know is he wanted something to hold what he had. I’ll find out more in the next couple weeks.

Thanks Marco2Bear. He might be afraid someone steel it on him. Haha It could be just for display.

Thanks John. I know he appreciates the things I make so I’m sure it will.

Woodbutcher, I wonder why. LOL. Thanks for looking.

Thanks Tony. I’m glad you like the splines on the lid also. I wasn’t sure if they looked OK. It was one of those things to play around with. I have a couple HEPA mask that we used for work with replaceable cartridges. I’ll have to pull it out next time I work with that lumber. I still have a couple boards left. I was using the standard dust mask and it didn’t help. It was so funny, the instant I would cut or sand I wound start sneezing. The dumb thing I did was to cut or sand a couple times to find out for sure it was that wood. LOL. IT WAS. Drive out here in that truck and I’ll give you the rest of that lumber.

Good looking box, Dave. Probably too nice for some ranges, but I know I’d be happy to carry it around. Think you could maybe pack 200 rounds of 9 in there if you went with wooden dividers. Maybe a full 350 round bulk pack if you just dumped them in…

I know a few wealthy gun crazies, and I’ve never seen such spacious accommodations for 50 bullets.

Awesome box though.

Thanks Mel. He’s been getting into the gun range lately so I think he will enjoy it .

Dave, anything you want. We aim to please. If you need something for a couple rounds or if you’re ready for a war we’ll take care of you. LOL.

Thanks Pottz. No rashes just instant sneezing and I mean instant. I will be taking precautions next time I use it just in case. I’ll blame it on the pandemic. I use to sneeze when I used walnut but that stopped over the last couple years. The wood has other names when I looked it up but that’s the name they had on the rack when I purchased it.

Thanks Bob. I was drawn weather to keep it all the same wood or not then spotted the Guanacastle and looked like a good match.

Thanks Steve. You could easily fit 3-4 times as much in that size box. I only guessing that it will be used more for a display than actual carrying around.
