My shop needed a bench. I had an idea in my head, some water damaged oak and a boat seat from a swap meet in England. I only have a few of the basic tools in my shop. I glued the oak strips into 12” blocks that could be fit my Dewalt planner. I then glued the 3 blocks together and fixed a few cracks. The walnut legs are 6” X 6” and rails are 2” X 6”. I have installed a Bench Crafted vise with a sliding dead man. The Walnut breadboard is mortised and held in place with the outside oak strip dovetail. I’ll add some more pictures. Thanks for looking

Sras asked if I could post the length. The bench is 10’ by 3’. My shop is 18’ by 40’ so I could use a big bench and I also needed a place to sit and draw project plans.

Another small bit of information. My best guess is that it weighs around 600lbs. I dropped the top on my arm when I was flipping it one day and bone bruised my arm. It didn’t hurt the top.

That’s a beefy bench for sure! Nice joinery and the Benchcrafted leg vise is a great addition. Great Job!!!

Oak and walnut not fur? ;)

A really beautiful bench. I like the walnut legs a lot. I usually don’t see walnut as hardly more than a few accents but you really made a statement with how you used it to set off the top. Love it!

Kras,

Welcome to LJ. Awesome bench!

A tip I was given….Just crop your pictures on a pc before posting on LJ. Then then come out upright.

BTW I have an oak tree that was slabbed calling me to make it a bench.

The wood in the bench is gorgeous! I don’t know how you are going to work on that, I wouldn’t want to mess it up.

Great bench, good construction and an awesome seat!

It does need a bunch of holes however :-)
