  • Picture one – the original bench with everything removed. When it became mine, the bench was chock full of stuff. I cleaned it off with the exception of the granite precision stone.
  • Picture two – A family friend recommended putting a cover over the precision stone to protect it. I didn’t and still don’t have any other place to put it.
  • Picture three – After using the bench like this with stuff stack underneath it, I decided it was time to make better use of the bench. I built a frame to slide in the bottom level. This picture shows the side with the drawers I made for this project. You’ll notice that these draws have not drawers fronts and are very basic. I did that on purpose since they are in the shop. The shelf above the drawers will be a slide out tray.
  • Picture 4 – On one end of the mobile bench I built clamp storage. This fits most of my current clamps. There is room for more, but at some point I’ll need another spot for my clamps. At that time I’ll change that end.
  • Picture 5 – The opposite side of the drawers are shelves. One shelf is missing. The on above where you can see the sander will be a slide out tray.
  • Picture 6 – This end is currently open. I’ll be putting a French cleat system on this end for screws, brad nails and other items to go.

I know this project is not entirely done, but at this point it’s done for now. At the moment I’ve had to move on to my next project and another one beyond that. Once those two are complete, I’ll be returning to this one to complete the unfinished tasks. With a small shop, I am trying to make use of every last piece of horizontal and vertical piece of real estate.

Once I do finish this, I’ll be moving the granite precision stone and putting a 2”X4” top on the bench to replace the plywood.

Looks like a useful cart/bench. Good call on protecting the granite plate.
