Bedside Table

Made this small bedside table for my step daughter for Christmas. She had found some basic designs a few months earlier and wanted something that was white.

I’ve experimented with bleaching wood a few times and although the process is really tedious, it has a nice effect where it preserves the grain (unlike paint) and has a whiter result than staining.

I’ve used Daly’s 2 part wood bleach in the past but unfortunately with COVID was unable to get it this time so had to use Zissner brand; it worked ok but I found the Daly’s bleach results a bit more consistent.

Top coat is Osmo Polyx oil in white.

Ash works great for this process as already a lighter coloured wood but with very visible grain structure.

The floating appearance is different, how stable is it?

Pretty. At first glance I said “no” but the more I see it the better I like it. Very nice.

The picture is deceptive, it actually has 4 small round feet

Beautiful work. Interesting on the bleaching process. May give that a test try on something and see how I like it.
