My wife and I stayed in a B&B on the grounds of the Saint Bernardus brewery in SW Belgium in 2012. I saw a display case I thought was very interesting, and within my construction capabilities. However, I only took one photo, and didn’t have enough info to copy it. Fortunately, another couple we knew were getting married later in the summer, and planned to honeymoon at the same place. I asked, and they took more photos and measurements.

In 2014, I finally found time to tackle the project. It appeared to me it was a fir-type wood, so I found an old waterbed frame from my college days in the attic, and planed and cut it to the proper-sized boards. (Back in the early 1970’s, I bought fine-grain, old growth fir in the upper Midwest as construction boards!)

The attached photo shows the original case in Belgium on the left, and my copy on the right.

Because I liked the results, and because I have ended up with too many pub glasses from our travels, I built a second, identical case, only using black walnut.

I highly recommend visiting that B&B; easy bike riding on flat land, lots of WWI history, and several breweries in the area, all at very reasonable prices.

Very nice work, and a good story with it.

Just beautiful work from top to bottom. If I had to choose between the two I would pick yours.
