Bowl horse and Spoon mule

I made this about a year ago. It was inspired by David Fisher’s bowl horse design combined with the Michigan spoon mule. David Fisher’s plan is on his site. A similar or maybe the same spoon mule plan is now in the latest FWW Tool and Shops issue.

I made mine from 2×10 fir from the local big box store. You can change the bowl head for a spindle holder. That is still on my to do list. Some day when I take on a chair I will make one. Both work great. The leather and rubber pads are great for getting an extra grip.

A few of my bowls and spoons are piled on there. The bird bowl is another David Fisher inspiration. If you are interested in green wood bowl making, his site is a must read and follow.

When I first saw this in your other post, I thought maybe the seat wasnt all that sturdy – but now I can see this thing is a tank. What caught my eye first was that pin system to adjust for different sized workpieces. That is rather neat.

Wouldnt be surprised at all if you bag a DT3 for this one.

Brilliant design Jamie. It is going to be fun to use.

Jamie, excelent bowl horse AND spoon mule!! Well done!
I thought about it a lot, and I´m thinking in doing the “log” design of David Fisher (I will have to leave it outside where I do my carving). ¿What are your thoughts about that design?

Diego, the log horse design looks great. If I had the room and the right log I would have made that one.

Looks like a great tool/work holding jig… I have a shaving horse on the list to make… it’s just way down the list for now. Like these ideas too!
