I got a lathe for christmas! I also got a pen turning kit so I immediately jumped into action. This was a very fun project and it actually wasn’t that hard to do. Unfortunately I don’t know what type of wood it is but it looks cool. It was sanded to 1000 grit and finished with danish oil. I’m really happy with this one and my next one will be even better since I’m getting some really cool exotic wood pen blanks and some polishing pads that go all the way up to 12,000 grit.

Welcome to the pen making club. You may find it addictive.

Congrats on the new lathe. Looks like a good first pen. Seriously addictive, I am sure many more will follow.

Dude, 12k grit is good for metal and gemstones. I wonder what kind of a wood finish one would rub with a 12k pad. Hints? Nice first pen BTW :)

Congratulations and welcome to your addition. There’s a self-help group for pen addicts here on Lumberjocks, but we keep encouraging each other to keep on making pens.

Try for some great deals on blanks and PSI kits. They ship quickly and inexpensively, and have become one of my favorite sources for kits.

Enjoy turning and keep posting your pens…

Congratulations on the lathe score. nice looking pen, but turning vortex is strong, once hooked there’s no way out. Be safe
