Cedar Blanket Chest

This was supposed to be a Christmas present, so it’s a month late but she loves it! The blanket chest is approximately 18” x 18” x 36” not including the feet and the upholstered cushion top. I built this Router Finger Joint Jig for this and future projects.

This was the first time I worked with Eastern Red Cedar. The wood works easy enough, it just has a lot of defects in it. I ended up filling a lot of the voids with epoxy.

Whoa, big pooch, and wowza on the chest, i’m in the process (having purchased all the material, cherry, walnut and mahogany) to build three blanket chests for my grand daughters, this is a great looking unit, and really think this is something i may mimic some parts of design. thanks and nice job for sure a unit proud to have built and own

Beautiful Mark! Looks like nice and traditional construction, built to last.

ERC has quite the wild look and of course that wonderful scent, but you nailed it on its dark secret, the hidden cracks 8^)
