These pens are keepsakes, going to family members. The resin (Alumilite) has stabilized (Cactus Juice) pine cones cast into it. My wife’s parents chose a gravesite that has a large pine tree adjacent to it. The last time we visited their graves, they were covered with pine cones. My wife picked up a bag full of them. We decided to cast them into pens to go to my wife’s brothers.

Awesome project and gift. I just started messing with resins. Do you use a vacuum or pressure pot?

Do you use a vacuum or pressure pot?

I have a buddy who has side-hustle doing resin casting … he uses Alumilite and a California Air Tools pressure pot. Before I turned the pine cones over to him, I baked them in a toaster oven to get them as dry as possible, stabilized them with Cactus Juice in my vacuum chamber, and baked again to cure the Cactus Juice.
