I posted this in the woodturning forum, but one of the guys suggested I post it in the projects forum, so here it is. I made the vase for my daughter’s birthday, its 9” in diameter and 11” high. The main body is maple, and top and bottom are walnut, the two center rings are Patagonia rose wood. It was a fun project, but took longer than I thought it would.

Great job. Vases can be more challenging and more interesting than bowls.

I am always impressed by open segment turning projects. Nice work!

I’ve dabbled in segmented turnings, but every time I try to do an open segment unit, I get just a bit of chip out, which is very frustrating.
This…is stunning.
Did you do this layer by layer? You know, add a layer, chuck it up and turn, add another layer, on and on.

Great looking design, nice contrasting woods, one beautiful vase.

Hello Tennessee, I assembled the bottom half first layer by layer, then when it was wide open like a bowl i turned the inside. then the top half was done in a similar way, then glue them together and turn the outside, thank you for your kind words, Lee
