I originally built this lap steel to sell, and put it in a local music store for quite a while. Sadly, everybody strummed it, but nobody bought it.
I finally pulled it, and went through it to make sure it was set up perfectly and started learning myself. My…what a sound this thing puts out.

Made of a single plank of solid walnut, with only a separate thin piece of walnut from the same plank for the pickguard, it features an overwound rail pickup, series parallel split, and to be honest, although I own another lap steel, this is my favorite by far.

I used a 22.5” scale fretboard off of a 3/4 sized guitar neck to make the fretboard, everything else I built. The unit has a heavenly sound, and sustain goes on forever.

Lap Steel is an enhancing sound, not for the heavy metal crowd or even a lot of the rock and roll crowd, but playing Amazing Grace on this, or Aloha, through my Fender Blues Deluxe is just about all I can take!

As always, Copy it if you want, and Thanks for Looking!

If I knew how to play one proficiently, I would have made one by now. Very nice looking instrument!

Its sure cool looking. If it holds its tuning and you can make music, I’d deem it an outstanding project.

It holds its tuning quite well. I made it from a template of the SX lap steel, with numerous upgrades, of course.

I started playing the lap steel when I was 12. That is beautiful! It looks like a Oahu design. Only Oahu only dreamed of having a piece look that good. A few years ago I bought another….just a cheapy, but I like to play Robert Randoph type stuff….again, this is very nice!!! Any player would love to own a guitar of yours!
