I wanted to try different shapes for boxes. This one has the body of white oak. The top is walnut with the center disc a piece of spalted hackberry that I had in my cut off drawer. I had a little issue with making sure that the top would remain in place so I drilled some holes and pushed through some dowels. I plugged those holes with ebony.

My main complaint is that I don’t think the angles are exactly 60 degrees so I needed to scribe the line on the bottom so I would know how the top and bottom fit so that there was no overlap.

Thanks for looking.

Boxes can be any shape (just as long as there are three dimensions per the mathematical definitions 8^)

These look like fine boxes with a unique design and certainly fill a void in the endless design space, nice choice of woods too!

A good alternative for lid retention is to embed magnets that align when the lid is applied. The great thing is they never get too tight or loose as time goes by.

Have your say...
