A few years ago, while I was learning Rhino, some of my lessons were figuring how to model hoods and fenders on vehicles. One of my attempts was this old Ford pickup. I found it in my archives and decided to enhance it and hollow it out so I could do the double side machining in Aspire.

I use MDF for the material, but need to reconsider using that stuff again (I know, I keep saying that). I had a lot of breakage and redo work because thin layers of that material are very brittle. It also added twice the time to the project. I decided to use the powder metal nickel coating to give it added strength. I did a similar project leaving it a natural wood carving, but I’m not sure what one I like better. Size is 16” L x 12” W x 12” T.

I would leave the wood natural. About a month I made a model { check my page} and the only thing I colored were the tires, and it looks great. I look at it this way, if it’s made of wood, I want it to look like wood. You did a great job!

Love the Ford. I don’t know anything about Rhino or Aspire but you certainly do turn out some nice work with it. I would also agree with the previous posts that it would look even more awesome if just clear finished in the natural wood. Just my opinion though.
