Sometimes your significant other wants more the chocolate. The heart ammo box was built from bloodwood with cutouts for 60 spaced bullets along the inside.
I used graph paper and Tinkercad to make the pattern and plan the spacing of the bullets and refine the shape. Once that was complete, I built the blank for the base out of glued-up staves to get a little more depth and decrease the wood’s movement over time. The top was built from two matched sections of the board to show the grain, with Festool dominoes to reinforce the joint.
Two more layers are in the middle, the inner one being a 1” riser which separates the lid from the base. An outer one sits on the outside and serves as molding to orient the top and bottom together.
The base is fitted with three large wood buttons for feet to keep the base from being scratched.
Finish is with gloss sprayed polyurethane to preserve the color and grain of the wood.

Cool looking ammo box or should I say SWEET. Nice job. I need to build one for my nephew but I don’t think this would be his style. LOL.

I have just one bad comment to make: a bullet is the projectile portion of a cartridge. The whole cartridge consists of at shell casing, the part that stays behind when the weapon is discharged. In the rear of the casing is the primer which is struck by the firing pin and in turn fires the powder charge, contained in the casing just behind the bullet, which is then driven out of the barrel by the pressure exerted by the burning powder/
You can take the weapons instructor out of the Essex andKent Scottish Regiment, but you cannot take him out of his habit of correcting minor errors.
That little minor slip being corrected, I think any young lady with a penchant for firearms would be bowled over with such a gift. I imagine that if you made the top portion that carries the rounds removeable and build the corresponding lower part thicker or thinner as needed, the same box could be made to cold several calibres.
The crazy Canuck, late of Her Majesty’s Essex and Kent Scottish Regiment, (Highland Light Infrantry.) D/Major (ret)
