This is a hallway magazine table that I made from slab Claro. I wanted to go through the whole process of milling the lumber from a slab (a first for me!). It was a great learning experience, but I’ll probably stick to S2S in the future! Traditional M&T joinery, and some Craftsman/Mission styling that my wife likes so much. Finished with some Watco Dark Walnut for a consistent color, a seal coat of ruby shellac, then a gel stain for some pop and four coats of sprayed lacquer and buffed out. Now my wife puts shoes on it…oh well, I’m still happy with it!

Magazine table? I’ve heard of reading tea leaves… but shoes?

Well done. Nice touch on the decorative holes and oblong on the legs. Its a small touch but it adds a lot to the look.

Nice work! ...and I’ll bet kind of fun milling your own pieces from that slab. Lovely grain in that walnut I’m with your wife…I like the mission look too…The shoes have gotta go though. Perhaps your next project should be a dedicated shoe rack ; )
Good luck ignoring Duck. It’s more fun not to anyways ; ) Welcome to LJ’s!

Nice work. We have a shoe rack of similar design. Works well.
