I used several species of wood, Bradford Pear from a tree I cut down, cherry, alder, pine, Douglas fir, and oak.

I also used most of the equipment in my shop. Besides the CNC for the flat stuff, the Rotary for the pedestal, table saw to cut the staves for the barrel, Lathe to round off the barrel and drill out the interior of the barrel, Laser to cut the glass for the lens and interior mirrors, and 3D printer for the small gears and crank handle.

The idea and measurements came from a set of drawings I got from Forest Street Designs. I modeled all the parts in Aspire and Rhino. Fun project.

THat is so cool it is crazy. That last empty spot for a photo is begging for a view of what it looks like inside ;)

Wow! That is great. Lots of fine detail, and I like the choice of wood too. What else is inside besides mirrors? I don’t know much about these things, but this one is the coolest I’ve seen. At lot better than the little cardboard one I had as a kid. I may give this a try, thanks for sharing.

WOW! I’m surprised you have so few comments. Maybe the first photo on the main project page hides the true beauty of this project. Very nicely done.

Great work! Just outstanding.

Too bad you can’t put a bulb in the eyepiece and make it a kaleidoscope projector?!
