A revision of a pencil sharpener ( http://smortegav.blogspot.com/2020/12/the-improved-and-safer-pencil-sharpener.html for the backstory) was what got me started on this little project.
The box is 8 inches square and 2 inches deep. I was going to make it with a hinge and latch; just when I thought pencil boxes were a thing of the past, when getting ready to post this project, I saw another pencil box with the same latch I was going to use- see last photo. Like the other poster, I used scraps and forewent a hinge and latch construction to avoid having to shop or order anything. I also wanted something that could fit in a toolbox when traveling and serve as a holder on a desk/work top. More at this link: http://smortegav.blogspot.com/2021/01/pencil-and-pen-box.html

Looks like you might need to edit the urls. They want me to create a blog on blogger…
Nice looking box, though.

Hi Dave; you have a future as an editor. As for me, grasshopper has much to learn in the social media dept- if nothing else, proofread first.

Pretty slick design. Nice you can take it with you off site if needed.

Sweet…..!! I need to revise mine into something like that…..! Mine’s about 35 years old, and made of 1/4” ply.

I like it. My shop pencil bin is a mess.

Thanks for the appreciation. As far as execution, there is room for improvement. I’m very happy with the end result though and it will find a compartment when I make a traveling tool chest.

Thanks! It’s irritating to have to mark something and, even though I have lots of pencils, mechanical and wood all over the place- including the floor at times-, yet not readily at hand. Hopefully the box will fix that.

So nice and yes of course you have such perfect order, even in your pens.
Impressed in so many ways.
Fine work.
Send my thoughts.
Big smile,

Hi Mads, thanks for looking in. We’re starting to think travel again (I’m fully vaccinated and Ger will be in two weeks) and, remembering what great fun we had in Denmark, daydreaming about returning. I’ve read and heard great things about Aarhus. Hope you are well.

Whoooo, if you are going to Aarhus, I will have to come and meet up. But it will have to wait a while, until the vaccines are going to my door… Here we are getting vaccines due to age and if we are well, so I’m not front line.
Otherwise you are of course welcome here in Copenhagen or in my allotment house in Vordingborg, for some simple living.
All well here, I try to stay sane during the dark winter and lock down – not at all an easy task…
Smiles.
