While shopping for Christmas gifts for my wife, I spotted a nice birdhouse at a garden center. I snapped a pic and went home and built something similar. All WRC from scraps I had in the shop. The gift was well-received. :)

Thanks, gents. I want to mention a couple things about the construction:
  • There’s an interior block near the top with a hole in the center (visible in one of the photos) that will support the birdhouse if it’s hung by a cable, although it will probably be mounted to a tree or post.
  • It was assembled with Titebond III including the shingles. They each got a dab of glue because I know those staples would loosen over time.
  • The bottom is removable with a couple screws for cleaning.
  • The very top will receive a little bit of copper flashing before it goes outside.
  • I left the WRC unfinished so it will weather to gray eventually.

Nice birdhouse, I loved that you mention snapping a photo at your local garden center. I have done the same thing, glad to know that I am not the only one.

I did feel a little self-conscious doing it, waiting until nobody was looking. :)

Nice job on a fun project. Good styling and well done. Several years ago I took to making birdhouses made in the shape of a man’s necktie. This reminds me of those. Fun.
