My attempt at a Coping Bowsaw

Build process with pictures here.

Hand tools only and with no plan and very little clue as usual.

Very ornate work, I like the appearance of this saw, very unusual but great looking. Started with branches straight off the tree, all hand tool work, true craftsmanship.

Glad to see I’ve inspired a few of these, and good to see your interpretation. Definitely a different saw than I would make (not sure I like the fat bit in the middle of the cross-piece), but definitely fun to watch. Thanks for sharing, Mike!

Thanks, much appreciated.

Dave
You do seem to have started a trend.
The fat bit is probably overkill, but wasn’t sure how much I’d weaken the crossbar with that mortice.
Besides, if I made something elegant and genteel it’d look right out of place in my shop ;)

From log to saw, about a ten on the Galoot scale! Pretty impressive.

That is awesome work from log to a useable saw with only hand tools. Well done.

Cheers swirt, honestly though, it’s not much more work starting with a log than a plank.
