My son got his first pocket knife from his grandfather as an early Christmas present. He wanted to make something for his sister and I suggested he make her a magic wand out of a branch we trimmed from our Christmas tree. That quickly morphed into a spear. He is quite proud of the end result. Obviously I am too.

Every boy should own a good pocketknife after they’re old enough – and be taught how to care for it and sharpen it well. That is often the beginning of a lifetime of creative enjoyment. If the girls like it, get them one too!

I don’t care what Mama says!
