With all the virus running through our park, everything is cancelled so I had to find something to do. This piece of mesquite was roughed out last year so I took it to the lathe and made this barrel. It was intended to be a cookie jar but it could be a bingo money barrel or what ever you want to put in it. It got me out of the house any way.

It is 5 1/2” diameter and 6 1/2” high and finished with clear gloss lacquer on the outside and a food safe oil on the inside.

Cheers, Jim

You’ll just have to give up the social butterfly events and keep making new innovative useful pieces.

Great looking piece of wood and a good job on the barrel shape. The dark banding makes everything stand out better. Excellent job. Mel

Good one Jim, reminds me of a bee hive. The variation of color in that mesquite is fantastic. I noticed the rings on this one are protruded, are they burnt in or painted.
Shame about the virus in your park. I would think it would of been a bit safer there but people do travel around.
Stay safe, keep turning.

Thanks, Mel, Jeff and Dave!
Hi Dave, the bands are painted black and then the bowl is re-turned to remove any run over of the paint.

Cheers, JIm
