Bowl turned from a old tree we had cut down in our yard. I saved the burl and it kicked around my shop for 10 years then day I decided to turn it. After several false starts getting it balanced so it didn’t shake the lathe apart it turned nicely. I turned it on an old flat belt lathe that my grandfather had restored. I roughed it out and stopped for lunch. When I came back it had started to potato chip so I finished it quickly. I left it about 3/4” thick as I was afraid it would break apart if I went thinner or it’s continued evolution to potato chip would do me in. It came out about 11” across and 6” high. It’s stayed in good shape for years now and is one of my wife’s favorites. It keeps disappearing from where I put it and reappearing in in one of her decorations. I think she just liked that old prickly tree..

-- So many great colors in woods and so little time.
