Check out this video of my completed sauna hot room.

I built this sauna using an excellent book, “The Art of Sauna Building”, as my reference.

This is part of a 500 square foot DIY basement finishing project. The sauna suite is the central feature of the finished basement. It includes the hot room, changing/shower room, and a toilet room. You can track my progress on furnishing the other rooms on my blog “Furnishing a Sauna Suite.”

Door framed in.

Support braces built into framing to support the stove. Adding 50 pounds of sauna rocks makes this step necessary.

Control box for the stove is located on the back side of the sauna wall.

Low bench.

High bench.

Bench cleats.

Color difference after applying paraffin oil.

Stove guard assembly.

First prototype for top bench back rest.

Final prototype.

Duckboard flooring.

Foot rest.

Top bench back rest assembled with stainless steel finish nails.

End back rests. NOTE: I reclined these 12 degrees before installation.

Thanks! It’s not a furniture-quality build, but the ergonomics of the benches and various rests make it a quite relaxing place to wind down…
