A new box of walnut with maple legs. All with hand tools, including hand carved legs. For some interest, I used bird’s eye maple veneer for the lining on the lid.

Pretty simple project, which allowed me to work on my proportions and do something different on the corners. I liked how the lid turned out. The bird’s eye gives in some unexpected interest when you lift the lid.

Thanks for looking!

I’m glad I opened this up for a closer look. The tapered Maple legs looked like tan Play Doh, Much clearer open, and then BAZINGA that inside top shot with the Birds Eye Maple. Didn’t expect that, nice touch.

I should probably read before looking at pics, but ehhhh I don’t.

Nice box.

Really pretty contrast between the walnut and maple. What did you use for the finish? Looks great.

Great job and congrats on trying something different.
The contrast is nice and the bird’s eye is a great surprise.
Keep it up!

Good idea with the legs. Can be used to hide splines and or poor dovetails or finger joints. The contrasting wood looks great as well.
