Small Cherry Side Table

Only 22” tall, this will sit next to a leather chair. It is just practical and blocky, but some parts came out well, so I thought I would share.

All cherry, although some very blond cherry kind of ruins the consistency I was hoping for. Time will fix that, I hope. All the joints are mortise and tenon.

The top turned out to be a beautiful piece. The grain is multicolored, and the wood is incredibly hard, so will do well as a table top.

I had never run into case hardening before, but here it is. I didn’t try to fill it or remove it, I think it is ‘character’ in a good sense.

Finished with Watco natural Danish oil. I think I will change the obnoxious shiny knob to a squarish bronze.

Thanks for looking.

I really like the simple straight lines. I bet that is going to look amazing several years down the road.

Very nice table, and the natural beauty of cherry is only going to get better with age.

That’s a good looking table, and I agree that the cherry should age well. I would go with a bigger knob, but that’s mostly because I have huge paws, and don’t like the feel of small knobs.

Thanks guys.

Yea, I’ve got sausage fingers, too. But the girls all said “ooo, it’s shiny”... so it stays :)

Maybe you need to turn a man-sized knob, but with a shiny brass insert, Mike. My sweetie says that might satisfy the “ooh shiny!” crowd. ;-)

Hey Mike, it’s great. I find the blonde-ness of some parts to be cool, natural and interesting.

I agree with you – it does need a drawer pull with more “presence” since it’s a big drawer.

Thanks for sharing.
