Black walnut Brass and Hickory. Made to order for a good friend. The handle is connected to the head with a tapered through mortise and wedged tenon. A fun project. My first time working with brass.

Great job. Looks like it has some heft to it.

Yes, it does have some heft. The spec calls for it to weigh 3 pounds., the length i34 inches and the head 11 inches long and 2 3/8×2 3/8 square. I hollowed out the head behind the brass for 4inches with a 1” Forster bit to lighten it but could only get it down to 3pounds 2 ounces. The brass plated were my idea and they are just too heavy. If my friend thinks the additional 2 ounces is too much (it might be) I’ll make another with thinner brass plates.
