Project Information

Last month, my eldest daughter asked me to make a case for her coffee and provided a picture of one she saw on Walmart.com from Pioneer Woman. I figured I could make it just as nice so I said I would see what I could for her. I finally finished it yesterday and will need to store it until Christmas to keep it away from her - this is a first for me as she usually waits until the last minute to tell me her wishes.

The base and top are made from Walnut while the sides are Ambrosia Maple. The drawer face is Basswood with a basic chip carving design (really need to practice it more often), a first time hand turned walnut knob, and Poplar sides. This is also my first attempt at cutting half-blind dovetails but I do like them. Inside the drawer, I used maple dowels as dividers and am giving her the ability to resize them as she wants to fit different objects. I wiped the entire project with a Walnut Oil finish then installed a tile mosaic that can hold her coffee cup.

Without seeing the picture that your daughter provided her I would choose this one anytime. Excellent design and detail.
