Project Information

Finally got the time to install the mantel and hearth on a fireplace for a friend of mine..
Mantel is 3" thick and 7.5 ' long and 14 to 16 " wide. I had to have the mantel custom cut at a sawmill.
they picked an awesome piece of walnut with lots of figure. The hearth was a piece of walnut that came from my yard and air dried for 4 yrs.
the mantel was a bear to handle as i couldnt lift it myself and had to call on friends and neighbors to help me.
My friends loved both pieces.

i made a lot of sawdust in my shop with all the sanding i did. also had to eposy some voids with black stained eposy.

my apologies for my finger in the picture

the second picture if of the mantel board after i just picked it up. you can see all the figure in it.

the third picture is a close up of the mantel figure

well thats all for now. i hope everyone has a great THANKSGIVING and stay healthy.

Nice work. They look great together.

And don't apologize for fingers in the photos, as woodworkers we have to prove from time to time that we still have them ;)
