Japanese Inspired End Tables

Two small end tables made out of solid walnut. These are similar to a previous design that I made for a hallway table and it worked out pretty well on a smaller version of an end table for a couch. Finished with sealcoat shellac and General Finishes Satin poly acrylic.

Questions and comments are welcome!

The grain in the wood really makes it stand out. Great job. Mel

nice build. I like the way you did the shelf. I will do the same with 2 tables I’m making as soon as i get the guts todo it.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone!
I would say the overall build is fairly simple, the real struggle was trying to notch the lower shelf as it sits halfway over each leg.
My biggest blunder was not pre-finishing all the parts before assembly. It was pretty tough getting a brush between the two tops to get my finish layers on.

Those look great. Wish I would of thought of the leg design you used. I tried a Japanese style end table as well a few years back and did the same thing. Finished after assembly. https://www.lumberjocks.com/projects/398449

If I end up doing it again I am definitely going to make the legs a square ring if that makes sense. Should be a lot easier to attach and finish separately!
