Our great granddaughter, McKinlee, always wants me to hoist her up to see this old bird house and stick her finger in the nose checking for birdies! So I decided to make her one for their house. This old bird house ia over 40 yrs old and still holding up well but it is all nailed together so i did not wan to pull it apart of copy it on the duplicator. As you can see in the 5th photo, I had to shim up the board to be cut to the height of the birdhouse and then trimmed it after it was finished.

The face is made from some “treated” pine and the sides , bottom and back are cedar. It is finished with a few coats of boiled linseed oil.
Cheers, Jim

He’s as pleasant looking, as he is scary. I can see kids wanting to check for boogers, errrr birdies though.

Thanks for all the nice comments! I was going to attempt to hand carve that face but I am no carver….I can’t work in 3D…but the duplicator can copy in 3D

Hi Gunny, the person who made the original did not make the back removable, so I can’t really see how much they used it.The hole is small so it can’t be a big bird.

Hi James, I made the duplicator. I copied the movement of one that cost about $2800 and this one cost me less than $200 with the Dewalt router at $135. I used the 4 bar link design and made mine with a little bigger table. I also made it with 2 height settings and for this face I had to mover the pivots to the top location.

Hi Lew, this is a HNC machine ( Human Numerical Control ). I run a stylus over the copied part and the router cuts the copy on the other side.

Cheers, Jim
