My wife and I a few years ago bought two delicate and beautiful bowls at a craft fair in San Francisco. I had always wanted to give them a proper home, but so far they had just been kicking around in a cabinet.

I have been fooling around with adding legs or display stands for my boxes, and this is a first effort. Hand carved legs in walnut, curly maple mitered box, and veneered walnut back. Not sure I like the legs, and my next effort may go for something a bit more understated. For scale, this is about 14 inches long and about 5 inches high.

Thanks for looking!

Super cool box/display!
The legs make it very elegant and the design is sleek.
Great work.

It has a bit of a Japanese look to it with the ‘stuck’ on legs. Good selection of timbers.

The case looks very versatile too. It would look good upside down with a small panel of glass as a table top.
Or could be a scaled down model of a coffee table with a glass top.

Nice! I can visualize two more bowls on the top, with the leg extensions keeping them from slipping off the ends.

Thanks all for the nice comments. I did not design it to have an Asian flair, but you are right. In any event, we like it and it has a place of honor in our living room.

Have your say...
