This carving was inspired from a calendar picture. I find a lot of interesting carving patterns from calendars.
The amazing thing about this carving is after I stained it, the Sun started shining from behind the clouds. A vertical knot on the backside is what caused this. I could never duplicate that effect if I tried again a million times. A person never knows what will happen when you’re putting the final finish to a carving.
After Staining, I applied satin polyurethane.

This is another creation made from the Lightning struck White Pine.

The detail in scale that you created is very lifelike. Its very difficult to maintain an overall perspective with that kind of skill. What a great display of craftsmanship. Sharp tools and a sharp mind are a good start. This type of work really shows the individuality in your abilities. Would like to see more of this type of expression. I know how the final look can be surprising. That’s what makes this craft so interesting.
