Came across a maple scrap on a Sunday afternoon and decided to have some fun.

I didn’t set out with the plan of getting all fancy with the wedge, but I got bored while the glue was drying on the other part. The shape kind of reminds me of a shaving curl, which makes me like it a lot. :)

I like the whimsical nature of this plane. I’m going to have to play a bit with it…

Wish I could see the other side and bottom. Cool wedge. I can’t see what holds the plane together in one piece.

Sorry I don’t have my phone to get you more pics but it’s constructed just like this tutorial

That should answer most of your questions.

Only difference is I sketched out an outline that appealed to me. Also I didn’t mess with carving out the spot for the chisel. Instead I split the board lengthwise, sawed out each half, and then glued back together.

Yep I like the whimsical look of the shaving curl. It looks so right, I am amazed more old planes did not strive for that look.
