Delivered this to my daughter and grandkids!

Made the top from 2 sheets of 5×5 Baltic Birch, cut 6 7/8” off both ends and 1 3/4” off one side. Banded one end and both sides with 3/4” x 7/8” hard maple using 3/8” dowels every 6”. Routed a 1/4” x 7/8” dado down middle of each. Sanded to 180. Mixed custom stain (Golden Oak and a bit of Dark Walnut)
Stained top prior to banding and inserting center piece. Kept stain off edges and dado. Banded it then sprayed 5 coats of pre-catalyzed FLAT lacquer 320 grit sanding between coats with final polish with brown paper sack
Base made from standard 2x Douglas Fir.
Same stain and finish. Getting a uniform stain on Baltic Birch is NOT easy!!
