Beer for Emergencies (Beer Swap Project)

Here’s my submission for a the Beer Swap 2020. One of the local breweries, Wild Heaven, sells a pils-style session ale called Emergency Drinking Beer. Because it’s 2020, I thought this was a fitting beer to send to Kenny (HokieKen), the unfortunate soul to draw my name in the beer swap. I thought it’d be fun to put it in a glass display case that mimics a fire extinguisher box. The box is constructed out of cherry, stained barn red. It includes miter joints with splines and a hinged door held together with rare-earth magnets so the glass actually doesn’t have to be broken to access the beer. Obviously it’s not an ideal way to store actual cold beer, so the display case can double as something else or just hold some empties. Naturally I made two boxes in case one of a major catastrophe.

Here’s the short video showing the build:

And here’s a photo that Kenny posted of this project along with a couple of other beers I sent his way:

Brilliant idea!!! You get my vote for the best idea in this year’s beer swap.

We had a lot of really creative ideas this year and even a couple of themed packages. This one ticked both boxes :-) I thoroughly enjoyed receiving this package! I’ve been saving the empties from the beers and returning them to the very well made case. I think it’ll be a great decoration in my home office :-) Thanks for joining and for the effort and creativity Brandon!

A clever project for the beer swap. You really need to send the brewery a picture. I wouldn’t be surprised if they use the idea in their advertising.

^ I agree with Nathan. The brewery might even pay you for your idea, thinking free beer here.

Neat idea, however, I hope you included several hundred pre-cut replacement glass sheets!

Just a well thought out, well built and creative idea.

Thanks, guys. I posted it on Instagram and tagged the brewery, so if they want to reach out, that’s fine. I mainly did it as a fun project.

Love it! In this time of pandemic world-wide, I think we all need something like this in our shops!!!
