As I make smaller dovetails for boxes, I needed a Moxon-like vise to hold the pieces for dovetailing. I also needed something that would elevate the work so my middle-aged (+) eyes could see what I was doing. I put this together in just a few minutes using some scrap plywood, 1/4 inch carriage bolts and some spare knobs I had.

Nobody is going to confuse this with Bencrafters hardware, but it works surprisingly well. It has made the dovetailing process easier and faster, and holds the boards very well. About six inches between the bolts. The top has 1/2 holes for a Veritas bench pup and a dog, so I can hold a piece, or just use a clamp to secure it to the top.

Not a work of great craftsmanship (just pocket screwed together), but it really is a significant help to my method of work, and scaled small to reflect the need I have now.

Moxon’s are the ticket to get the work up where you can see it, work from a more convenient height for dovetailing, and sometimes just provide a clamping top to use as a portable bench. Thing is for the time spent making one, and the cost, they are almost always going to be a win win.

Enjoy yours.

I use mine all the time. I used some $7 Golds Gym dumbells from wal-mart on mine but may opt for benchcrafters premium ones in a future build since I use it so much. Your looks great and gets the job done.

Nice variation on the Moxon. Certainly useful.
