A Big Green Egg followed us home couple years ago. It’s a new hobby and frankly I’m addicted to it.

Our plans to build a cart for the egg have been delayed (safe term for procrastination). In the interim, I found some value in some white oak cutoffs (scrap) from a recent project.

My first attempt at an end grain project. Finished with a product newly released earlier this year (Walrus – Cabin Walls finish, it’s 100% food-safe and the only finish they make that’s suitable for outdoors). We’ll see how it survives the exposure to the Texas weather.

Photos do not do it justice. The finish is very warm and has a great color. So far, I’m impressed with the Walrus product.

First time I attempted to brand an end grain. Did not go as planned. Will certainly do a test case on my next one.

Y’all be safe.

That’s a great idea. Turned out very nice. I have a different brand ceramic kamado. So I understand your addiction to your chillin’ and grillin’ side hobby.

I know what you mean about the brand. I messed up a cutting board trying to brand it. Now I do it on the sides or long grain.

Side tables look great btw.

Looks awesome! I’ve been wanting to do a CNC template for some as I have an XL.

Have your say...
