Another keepsake /jewelry box for a surprise to a friends wife .
I started this box several month ago and I finally come up the with a design details that I was happy with.
The box is made from a piece of maple flooring that I planed to 9/16” to remove the grooves on backside and some walnut trim .
The top is router textured and installed a pair of 10mm SOSS hinges for the lid .
The tray is a simple two compartment divided by a very simple lift handle .
Wipe on POLY is the finish which I like as it is so easy to work with and three coats gave a nice result in no time .

Enjoy the pictures and honest comments are always welcome .

Beautiful job Klaus!
I like your style, this box and some of your previous pieces.
Nice job on the texturing and the square pegs/dowels joinery.
So many nice details make this a GREAT build.

Very nice, that solid wood flooring comes in handy:) still have a bundle of Jatoba that trashed my old planner blades.

Nice one, Klaus. Maple and walnut always seem to play well together. The texturing of the top made the maple look like birds eye maple. The decorative square pegs give it a craftsman feel.

I always look forward to your design details, very unique, and of course that texturing is a key feature.

I also would love some info on how you did that texture 8^)

Never plane the finished side it will dull the blades in no time but using a big drum sander a our college does a great job . Klaus

Glad you like the design details John and I agree with you about maple and walnut working nice together .
My thoughts on the carving is that it sort of looks like coral .
